Dear Alumni, Friends, and Neighbors, Everyone seems to be pleased that the old Monroe City School was saved to serve the community in a variety of ways. The Blue Jeans Community Center is celebrating its tenth year with 30-40 faithful volunteers, who keep it going. Maybe you’re one who plays cards there or walks in the gym. Maybe you enjoy the fall festival and parade or the Saturday night music and Sunday dinners. Perhaps you’ve brought your children or grandchildren to Storytime or the Christmas party, an Easter egg hunt or the haunted house. Maybe you come to the book club or the library or the computer room. Maybe you enjoy our newsletter or use our copier. Perhaps you use the cafeteria once in a while for parties or reunions. Maybe you don’t do any of these things but are pleased to drive by and see the community center alive and available. Maybe it warms your heart to know basketball games are going on in the gym and GED students are studying in a classroom. Maybe you’ve moved away and only admire the Blue Jeans Center from a distance. So far, the center has stayed open with volunteer help and donations. Money has been raised at fund-raisers to pay the bills. However, the rising cost of utilities is threatening to close our doors. Our winter heat bills are running over $4,000.00 a month. If we don’t find some extra income, we will have to close the center. Desperate economic times call for desperate measures. We need your help. We are starting special clubs for those who donate $100.00 or more. Before you gasp, just think how quickly you spend $100.00 at the grocery store. You will be in the Blue&White Club for $100.00, the Silver Club for $250.00, the Gold Club for $500.00, and the Platinum Club for $1,000.00 or more. However, we are accepting any and all donations, which are tax deductible. The money will be used only for utilities and maintenance. We will honor you by putting your name on a plaque on the wall with the other supporters. Be proud to know that you are helping to keep the Blue Jeans Center open.
